Medical Center

Nearly 4 million people visit the 77030 zip code each year, says Roya Arfa, Texas Realtor and Relocation Specialist for Beth Wolff Realtors in Houston. Compacted into this two and half-square mile area are more than 40 medical institutions, including 21 academic institutions and 13 hospitals, that make up the internationally renowned Texas Medical Center or as Houstonians like to call it, "The Med Center." This medical treasure was initiated by a $19-million endowment from philanthropist Monroe Dunaway (M.D.) Anderson in 1939. Today, it is the largest medical center in the world, attracting leading academic and healthcare professionals who make their homes in some of Houston's most sought-after communities nearby.

These premier neighborhoods, including West University Place, Southside Place, Southampton, Boulevard Oaks, the Museum District, Broadacres, Southgate and Bellaire have unique characteristics, but their proximity to many of Houston's best culinary, entertainment, family, sports and cultural venues, outstanding schools, shopping and, of course, top medical facilities, are distinctions they share.

West University Place

Adjacent to Rice University, "West U" has the small, college-town feel. Dozens of popular retailers, restaurants and bars are located within its pedestrian- and bike-friendly limits. Its excellent schools, parks and recreation and athletic programs attract professionals and families, and make it one of Houston's most desirable areas.

Southside Place

Truly a small town within the city, this nine-square block enclave has its own government, police and fire departments. Excellent schools, large lots and vintage and newly constructed homes draw some of the wealthiest families in Houston.

Southampton

This exclusive neighborhood has strict deed restrictions to ensure the preservation of its beauty and charm. Driveways are noticeably absent, replaced instead by a system of alleyways, leaving more space to showcase the area's classic homes, expansive front yards and gorgeous trees.

Boulevard Oaks

A National Register Historic District, Boulevard Oaks is a highly desirable neighborhood because of its excellent location and its well maintained, carefully restored array of homes -- from aristocratic mansions to picturesque cottages –all shaded in the canopies of stately oak trees.

The Museum District

Featuring renovated mansions and 100-year-old bungalows, the Museum District is one of the trendiest, most diverse areas near the Med Center. It boasts an eclectic array of upscale and vintage clothing boutiques, museums, parks, nightlife and dining hotspots.

Broadacres

A City of Houston historic neighborhood, Broadacres is known for its well-appointed, elegant estates, perfectly manicured lawns and gardens, and shaded esplanades.

Southgate

A tightly knit community, Southgate enforces strict deed restrictions to maintain its appeal to families who appreciate the neighborhood's outstanding schools, the light rail system into the Med Center and the convenient shopping and other amenities nearby.

Bellaire

A family-oriented city that prides itself on preserving the small-town quality of life, Bellaire is known for its excellent schools, champion athletic programs and large lots. Often referred to as the "City of Homes," Bellaire has a wide range of homes from renovated ranches to contemporary custom-built mansions.
