This area is best known as the "Major Corridor of Commerce" in Houston. Its close proximity to Downtown Houston offers high rise living with outstanding views of the city. Approximately 2.5 miles to the heart of downtown, the road itself is used as part of the route for the annual Chevron Houston Marathon. Concerts are also held on the south side of the bayou, next to Allen Parkway, including the official City of Houston Fourth of July fireworks celebration and concert. Upscale apartments and highrises have recently been developed along the parkway adding to its beauty.
Over the years this area has become popular with "Yuppies" and "Dinks" . Residence love to hop on the Washington Wave to take them to their favorite hot spot on Washington Avenue or walk along some of its amazing trails. The Washington Corridor is to Houston as 6th Street is to Austin. Drive down Washington Avenue on a Friday or Saturday night and you can't miss the large crowds enjoying all that the area's nightclubs, wine bars, pubs, and sports bars have to offer.
